Glasgow Diaries Part (4) IV: New Acquaintances

The following posts will be written from Beecee's perspective, in first person

Early April 2018: I was sitting in my campus prayer room when I came across another female student. I expressed to her that I really wanted to get involved in the Glaswegian community and asked her if she knew any information. She said that she knew of many different Islamic charity organizations that some of her friends were apart of. She gave my contact information to one of the charity organizers and I was added to the charity WhatsApp group the following day.

I signed up for the charity meeting that was being held the next week. I took the train from Glasgow's central train station and got off near the area where the charity office was located. The office was located in an area with a large desi community, something I was definitely not used to. I entered the office and went upstairs, as instructed. The charity's organizer greeted me and we waited for more people to arrive. There were about 10 to 15 people, around their late teens and early 20's. The charity organizer suggested that we do an ice breaker to introduce ourselves.

Sitting across from me was a guy in his late teens, in a pink Adidas tracksuit jacket. He introduced himself as Mahdee and said that he worked in consulting and that it was boring and how he didn't recommend it. I smiled because I thought that was quite funny. We continued with the meeting and finalized a date for the charity event in which we would all be volunteers for.

During the charity meetings that followed, Mahdee and I started speaking more. We had the same taste in music, which was something we bonded over right away. Very early on, I realized that Mahdee and I were almost opposites. I was quite the social butterfly and he had more of a reserved type of personality. I remember his reserved personality was something that intrigued me. I wanted to know everything about him, what was he hiding behind those eyes? He was so mysterious compared to any other person I had ever come across, I was determined to break his shell.

End of April 2018: Mahdee and I spent a lot of time together the next few weeks. Going out for meals, talking about our families and attending charity meetings and events together. I could finally see him opening up more and it was a nice feeling knowing that he was comfortable enough with me to share everything he had been through in life. With Mahdee taking the long way around when dropping me back to my student accommodation and me not wanting to say goodbye just yet, made it apparent that we liked each other. We had a conversation about how we enjoyed spending time together and didn't want to ruin our friendship but it was quite obvious that we wanted to be more than friends.

May 2nd, 2018: Mahdee and I made plans to spend some alone time together after a charity event. So after wrapping up the event and saying goodbye to everyone, Mahdee drove me to River Clyde and as we watched the lights twinkle in the water, I remember thinking how crazy it was that I really began to like someone like Mahdee. He was so different from the type of person that I usually was attracted to. But that night I went with my heart and as I sat in his lap, I told him that I really liked him. He had the biggest smiled on his face and said he said he liked me too. I kissed him on the cheek and he picked me up and spun me around. It was truly like a fairytale moment, it was perfect.
